Urgent help

First — one slow breath.

Nothing here needs doing in the next ten seconds. Whatever has happened, we’ll take it calmly, one step at a time.

Is someone in danger, or badly hurt?

Don’t wait — call 999 now. You will not be wasting anyone’s time. If someone is in danger, calling 999 is always the right thing to do.

 Call 999 — emergency

Tapping the button makes the call for you.

Just gave someone your bank details or a code?

Stop reading. Call your bank now — the number is on the back of your card. They can freeze things straight away.

No card to hand? Dial 159 — a safe hotline that connects you to most major UK banks.

 Call 159 — bank hotline

These buttons make the call for you.

If speaking on the phone is hard

You can still reach every service here.

  • Text 999 — you can text instead of calling, but your phone must be registered first. To register, text the word register to 999, then follow the replies to confirm. Do this today, while things are calm.
  • Relay UK — a free app where you type, and a trained assistant speaks to 999 for you. Set it up in advance, then dial 18000 in an emergency. It also works from a textphone.
  • NHS 111 online — answer questions on a website instead of phoning, at 111.nhs.uk.

What’s happening?

Tap the closest one and I’ll show you exactly what to do.

Once you feel calmer

  • Tell someone you trust. A friend, a neighbour, a family member. Sharing what happened makes the burden much smaller — and they can sit with you for any calls.
  • Report it.Report Fraud (formerly Action Fraud) on 0300 123 2040. In Scotland, report it to the police on 101 instead. Reporting helps stop the same people hurting anyone else.
  • Be kind to yourself. Scammers are professional criminals using clever psychological tricks. Being caught by one says nothing about your intelligence.

Prefer paper? Print this as a one-page guide — a steady backup to keep by the phone, in case a screen ever freezes or goes blank.
